SAN FERNANDO, Calif. — Authorities shut down all southbound lanes of Interstate 5 in Los Angeles County after a sheriff’s inmate bus broke down.

KABC-TV reports the closure occurred around 5:30 a.m. Monday in the Mission Hills area while inmates were transferred to a second bus.

Traffic was backed up for miles near the Interstate 405 interchange as several deputies observed the apparently orderly transfer.
