FRESNO, Calif. — A probation officer is recovering after he shot himself in the foot at the shooting range, Tulare County Chief Probation Officer Christie Myer said.

The incident occurred about 10:30 a.m. Friday.

The officer was drawing a weapon from the holster during practice and the weapon accidentally went off, she said.

Fellow probation officers rendered first aid and the officer was taken to Kaweah Delta Medical Center, treated and released. A full recovery is expected.

Probation officers in Tulare County have carried arms for about 15 years and this is the first time anyone has been injured at the range, Myer said.
