CINCINNATI — A man who strangled and dismembered his wife in 1977 is up for parole in Kentucky.

USA Today reports that Kevin Adrian Murtaugh was sentenced to life for the murder of his wife and licensed practical nurse Diane Camm.

Originally, Murtaugh claimed that he found his wife dead at home of an overdose, and then disposed of the body by cutting it up in the bathtub to save the family “the embarrassment.” He later confessed to strangling her, eventually leading authorities to her missing limbs that he dumped in two remote spots.

Her head and torso were found by a teenager in a snowbank.

The Kentucky Department of Corrections will consider Murtaugh’s possibility for parole this month, as he becomes eligible on Dec. 1.

Murtaugh, now 61, received a risk assessment from the DOC of “very low.”

Cary Camm, Diane Camm’s sister, is fighting Murtaugh’s release. He reached out to her in 2002 with an apologetic letter, but Camm didn’t buy it.

“This is a ploy of saying, ‘I’ve done this step,’” she said. Camm has attended every parole hearing for Murtaugh since his conviction 38 years ago.

She worries what could happen to her family and to her community if Murtaugh is released.

“I don’t trust what Kevin can do,” she said.
