Parole procedure spikes Conn. prison population

The state-wide prisoner count so far this month is over 700 higher than the state had projected

HARTFORD, Conn. — Despite the fact that some at the State Capitol are saying the Malloy administration is in a rush to push dangerous criminals out the doors of the state’s prisons, it appears that what’s happening is just the opposite.
Despite the fact that overall crime rates are down in Connecticut and fewer people are being sent to prison and a new, so-called, early release program, the state is experiencing an unexpected spike in the prison population.
The state-wide prisoner count so far this month is over 700 higher than the state had projected.
