BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — A probation officer shot at but didn’t hit a suspect hiding in a closet who he believed was armed with a gun.
The suspect, Stephen Espinoza, was uninjured and arrested on suspicion of offenses including possession of a gun by a felon and resisting arrest, according to a Kern County Probation Department news release.
The incident began 5:20 p.m. Monday when probation officers arrived at a residence in the 200 block of San Lucas Street in McFarland to conduct a compliance check on Espinoza. They believed Espinoza, 24, was in possession of a shotgun.
