‘Cookie’ shank discovered in Wash.

Weapon concealed within an inmates personal property

Sea-Tac, Wash.: Late last year, while conducting a search of personal property belonging to an inmate being placed in the Special Housing Unit, staff discovered a prison-made weapon fashioned from metal concealed within a bag of cookies. As a precautionary measure and to ensure the safety of staff and inmates, staff should consider x-raying inmate personal property as needed as an effective means of detecting contraband.
