Loaded weapon mailed to Fla. jail

Orlando Sentinel

Arrests are expected after Brevard County deputy sheriffs intercepted a loaded handgun mailed to an inmate at the county jail.

Since Friday, when the discovery occurred, investigators have been interviewing inmates and others about who conspired to get the derringer into the facility.

Sheriff Jack Parker said the weapon was concealed in a thick package labeled as privileged legal communications. He did not identify the inmate who was supposed to get the package, other than saying he was “dangerous.”

Officials wouldn’t say whether intended targets inside the jail were inmates or staff.
