NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has arrested three people, including a former correctional officer, on charges related to bribery and drug smuggling at the Maury County Jail.
The agency said in a news release Monday that a grand jury last week indicted five people as a result of an investigation that started more than a year ago.
In a covert operation, the TBI, FBI and Maury County Sheriff’s Department found that 37-year-old Derek Turner, a correctional officer, was accepting cash payments to smuggle drugs and other contraband into the facility for two inmates.
