COLUMBIA, S.C. — Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center is installing six additional cameras near a jail unit where an inmate was beaten by a correction officer in late February.
Robin Smith, 37, of Columbia, is charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature; and Todd Andrew Hollins, 51, and Olympia Latoya Tuten, 36, are each charged with obstruction of justice for their involvement in the alleged beating of 51-year-old Robert Sweeper.
Sweeper, who was an inmate in the special housing unit at Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, was allegedly beaten by Smith. Richland County sheriff’s deputies were called to Palmetto Health Richland on Feb. 15 by hospital employees who said Sweeper was brought to the hospital by jail personnel the same day, according to a sheriff’s office incident report.
