CLERMONT, Fla. — A Lake Correctional Institute corrections officer was arrested at his job Wednesday after being accused of sending a former flame threatening text messages.
Christopher J. Garland, 43, of Floral City, was charged with one count of written threats to kill or do bodily injury, a second degree felony, according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff’s officials said the victim, a Sumter County resident, filed a report with the them on Sunday, alleging Garland had been sending her text messages on her cell phone, which included, “I will find you and kill you,” “I’m on my way,” Find another place to park your car,” and “I’ll find you at school,” and other curse-laden messages.
Lt. Bobby Caruthers, sheriff spokesman, said the two had a previous relationship.
Caruthers said law enforcement officials placed the woman’s home under surveillance.
Garland was taken into custody by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and placed in the Lake County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bail.
