TROY — A sergeant at the Rensselaer County Jail turned himself in to Troy Police Friday and was subsequently arrested for his alleged illegal accessing of a state-maintained computer database.
Shortly after his arrest, Master Sergeant Anthony Patricelli, 47, was arraigned in Troy City Court on two felony counts, falsifying business records and computer trespass. Patricelli was released after his arraignment, according to his attorney Joseph Ahearn.
“The case will proceed either by way of a plea or a grand jury action,” said Rensselaer County District Attorney Richard McNally. Ahearn said he was contacted by the DA’s Office early Friday early afternoon and told his client should turn himself in to Troy Police and surrender all his weapons.
Patricelli’s arrest comes after the DA’s Office received and investigated a complaint which alleged that he used the E-Justice database to check the criminal history of an ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend. An audit of the system last month by the Division of Criminal Justice Services revealed the breach.
