MIAMI-DADE, Fla. — A Fla. judge declared a mistrial when the brother of the accused, a corrections officer, was arrested for witness tampering.
Jerron Williams is accused in the November 2010 killing of a woman, as well as shooting and injuring her two children, the Miami Herald reported. Witnesses have identified Jerron Williams as one of the shooters.
His brother, Devin Williams, was also identified by witnesses: he allegedly showed up to one witness’ place of work and made a threatening hand gesture, while he stared down another in the hallway outside of the court room.
Officer Rachael Meadows, an officer testifying in the case, arrested Williams just as jurors were about to be bead into the court room. The family of both brothers began “hollering” as Williams was being lead to the jail next door for processing.
Walsh said the Jerron Williams’ jury had been “tainted” by noticing the commotion with the defendant’s relatives. The judge called it the “worst possible confluence of circumstances.”
Williams was freed shortly after his arrest.
