SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — A former Puerto Rico corrections officer and two other men accused of providing armed security for drug traffickers have been convicted by a federal jury.

The U.S. Department of Justice said Tuesday that 27-year-old Bernis Gonzalez Miranda was convicted of three counts of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine for his alleged actions in 2010.

Prosuectors say the former corrections officer acted as a security guard for a fake drug transaction organized by the FBI as part of an undercover operation. They say Gonzalez received $2,000 in cash for his alleged role.

Sentencing is scheduled for August.
