Ga. CO fired in connection with inmate death

Capt. Victor Martin was placed on paid suspension for possible employee misconduct the day after 19-year-old Jade Holder was beaten in his cell

AUGUSTA, Ga. — An employee who was placed on suspension at the Augusta Youth Development Campus the day after an inmate was beaten to death in his cell has been fired.

The Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice confirmed the termination of Capt. Victor Martin, who had been suspended with pay since Nov. 10.

“We can make no additional comment tonight,” DJJ spokesman Jim Shuler said in an e-mail Monday night. “Augusta investigations continue.”

Martin was placed on paid suspension for possible employee misconduct the day after 19-year-old Jade Holder was beaten in his cell Nov. 9. Michael Jarod Everidge, 17, was charged with murder in connection with the death.
