Ohio officer fired over naked inmate treatment

Claims to be the victim of a conspiracy

DAYTON, Ohio — A southwest Ohio township’s deputy police chief has been fired over actions last year involving jail decontamination of a 17-year-old girl.

The Dayton Daily News reports Miami Township trustees voted Wednesday to terminate John DiPietro after hours of testimony in disciplinary hearings that began last year. He had been on paid administrative leave since October.

Police say the girl was pepper-sprayed after fleeing an officer investigating a shoplifting complaint. Authorities say DiPietro allowed her to take her clothes off and hosed her down without asking for a female officer’s help. He also allegedly took a photo of her tattoo with his cellphone and shared it with a friend, and didn’t file reports properly.

The 26-year veteran says he is the victim of a conspiracy. His attorney might appeal.
