Penn. CO charged with trying to sell pot to inmates

CAMP HILL, Penn. — A correctional officer at SCI Camp Hill faces charges for allegedly attempting to supply marijuana to inmates in April.

Kevin Atkins, 45, of Harrisburg turned himself in to Pennsylvania State Vice Troopers and was taken to Cumberland County Prison in lieu of $200,000 bail.

Atkins is charged with attempted possession with intent to deliver marijuana and criminal use of a communication facility.

According to Pennsylvania State Police spokesperson Trooper Tom Pinkerton, inmates approached Atkins in April and asked him to supply them with marijuana.

Atkins allegedly contacted Thomas James McKinley IV, 34, of Harrisburg and asked him to obtain marijuana, which he would then supply to the inmates.Vice troopers heard allegations about Atkins’ activities and an investigation began.

McKinley was arrested in late April for allegedly arranging to pick up $200 and 4.5 ounces of marijuana from an undercover trooper.He is charged with criminal conspiracy, possession with intent to deliver and criminal use of a communications facility, according to a news release from Pinkerton.
