WEST NEWBURY — Police say an allegedly drunk Suffolk County corrections officer flashed her badge and tried to convince a patrolman to not press charges after she was found sitting in her damaged car in the middle of a public street.
After she was arrested, officers reported she yelled at them, told them to drive her home, and told them they were ruining her life.
Brandie Thornton, 41, of 85 Bachelor St., West Newbury, faces charges of drunk driving — second offense, and negligent operation of a motor vehicle following her arrest Wednesday evening.
According to a report filed by patrolman Barry Coker, at around 6:30 p.m. he received a report of a car parked in the middle of the road on South Street, near Turkey Hill Road. A side window of the green Ford Escape had been smashed and the entire side of the vehicle had been damaged.
Coker reported the door was open and he smelled “a strong odor of alcohol inside.” Thornton was in the car, holding her badge, and said to him, “you know I work for the sheriff, right?,” the report states.
Coker reported Thornton told him someone had hit her vehicle and that it would not drive. However, an initial investigation by West Newbury police officer Dan Cena, who was also on the scene, indicated she had sideswiped a nearby pole.
