BROWN COUNTY, Texas — A recently fired Brown County jailer is accused of having sexual contact with a female inmate.
Jeremy Wayne Essary, 29, was booked into jail last week on a warrant and charged with improper sexual activity and violation of civil rights of a person in custody, according to jail records. Essary was released on a $10,000 bond last week.
The Brown County Sheriff’s Office has been investigating the alleged incident between Essary and a female inmate since June 28.
Brown County Sheriff Bobby Grubbs said Essary was fired on June 30 in light of the accusations. Brown County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Lana Guthrie is heading the investigation.
“We expect the best from our employees,” Grubbs said. “Conduct like this is against the law and will not be tolerated. We take it very seriously.”
