WETUMPKA, Alabama — Mother Jones has named Julia Tutwiler Prison for Women in Wetumpka one of the 10 worst prisons in the nation.
The women’s prison where guards have impregnated inmates and where consultants call “repressive and intimidating” came in at No. 7 on the list.
The magazine based its subjective rankings on three years of research, correspondence with prisoners and interviews with criminal-justice reform advocates.
