SOLANO COUNTY, Calif. — A 51-year-old Solano County jail inmate died Sunday afternoon of an unknown cause, a Solano County Sheriff’s Office spokesman said Monday.
At about noon, Dennis Vanbuskirk, a transient, complained to jail staff that he was having a possible anxiety attack, Lt. Gary Faulkner said.
Medical personnel at the jail monitored Vanbuskirk’s condition and about an hour later, he went into “medical distress,” Faulkner said.
Vanbuskirk was taken by ambulance to NorthBay Medical Center, Fairfield, where he was pronounced dead, Faulkner added.
Per departmental policy, criminal and administrative investigators from the Solano County Sheriff’s Office, as well as investigators from the Solano County District Attorney’s Office, were contacted and interviewed all witnesses. The policy also requires the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office to perform an autopsy to determine cause and manner of death, Faulkner said.
Vanbuskirk was booked into the jail in March on charges of lewd acts with a child, Faulkner added.
His death remains under investigation.
