WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Corrections Corporation of America is in hot water after a former inmate filed a lawsuit alleging the temperature of the shower burned his genitals.
Robert Morris, who was incarcerated at D.C.'s Correctional Treatment Facility last fall, claims that when he got into the shower one day, it unexpectedly turned scalding. “There was a sudden, very rapid, and quite extreme temperature change and it burned him in the genital area,” his attorney, Geoffrey D. Allen, told Washington City Paper. “It was certainly uncomfortable, as you can imagine.”
Although he didn’t suffer permanent damage, Morris is requesting $1 million in damages. The suit, filed in Superior Court in January, claims facilities management knew about the shower’s dramatic temperature changes.
