BRIDGETON — A Vineland man, who was beaten into a six-day-long coma while an inmate at the Cumberland County Jail and is now bound to a wheelchair, could be released on bail after his attorney argued that the jail’s negligence and inability to provide adequate security nearly cost him his life.
With the assistance of officers, Joshua Maldonado entered Superior Court in Bridgeton last week in a wheelchair where, after arguments by his lawyer and the prosecution, Judge James Swift decided to reduce his bail from $500,000 to $15,000.
Maldonado, 20, of South State Street, is currently being held on multiple charges including two counts of aggravated assault in connection with a Sept. 3 shooting at the Oak Tavern in Vineland.
