VENTURA COUNTY, Calif. — The Ventura County Board of Education passed a resolution Wednesday opposing the construction of a prison hospital in the county.
A federal receiver selected the current site of the Ventura County Youth Facility near Camarillo to be converted into one of seven prison hospitals for physically and mentally ill adult inmates expected to be built around California. The hospitals are meant to satisfy a federal court order for California to improve its prison healthcare system, which was found to be unconstitutionally poor.
The Board of Education passed the resolution 4-0, with Mary Louise Peterson abstaining.
