REDWOOD CITY — A San Mateo County man was sentenced to jail for fatally beating a neighbor’s poodle he believed had impregnated his dog several times, prosecutors said Friday.

Marcos Montano-Topete, 33, already has credit for 352 days behind bars for attacking the dog, a 12-pound poodle named Globsis, with a brick. He also must go to counseling and is prohibited from working with animals, San Mateo County chief deputy district attorney Karen Guidotti said.

A jury deliberated for two hours in February before convicting Montano-Topete of maliciously killing an animal and animal cruelty, both felonies, for the March 26, 2012 attack. The convictions left him faced with a maximum of three years behind bars.
