FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. – A Florida man showed up for a meeting with his probation officer not just with a loaded gun, but also in a stolen vehicle.
The Huffington Post reports that Christopher John Smith, 38, was arrested Monday on probation violation charges.
He was found to have a silver Ravens Arms .25 caliber pistol stuffed into a bag. There was no round in the chamber, but there were five rounds in the magazine.
The weapon was detected when Smith walked into the probation office. They also discovered that the vehicle he was driving had been stolen from a rental business on Sept. 1.
Smith said he did not know whether he’d rented the car or if he’d made payments, saying his “business partners” handled those details.
He also couldn’t provide the names of people or companies he’d worked with who were responsible for paying for the vehicle.
Smith asked his probation officer why he was asking so many questions, and the officer replied he was just trying to figure out why Smith was in possession of a stolen vehicle. Smith then invoked his right to remain silent.
He remains in the Flagler County jail without bond.
