BERLIN — A German mayor helped rescue a man who accidentally wandered into a women’s prison and got trapped inside.
Mistaking the jail entrance for a shortcut to a nearby park, the man was just passing through and did not notice he had wandered into the prison, according to Reuters. By the time he realized he was in jail, the gate to the prison had already closed, locking him inside.
Mayor Henning Blum from the town of Hildesheim was passing by the prison and called police when he heard the 24-year-old man shouting for help.
Police are investigating why the prison gate was left open, according to reports.
