EVANSVILLE, Ind. — A man arrested in connection with a shooting found himself facing contraband and battery charges after a weekend in the Vanderburgh County Jail.

The Courier Press reports that during a routine strip search, an officer noticed “a foreign object protruding from the anus area” of Terrence J. Lewis. When asked if he had anything in his rectum, Lewis grabbed the object and put it in his mouth.

The object turned out to be a small bag of cigarette tobacco and one gram of marijuana.

Later, Lewis was accused of punching a 60-year-old inmate, sending him to the emergency room.

As the inmate was being treated for a bloody eye and nose, he explained that Lewis punched him twice in the face after he “passed gas,” which Lewis found to be “disrespectful.”

Lewis faces two counts of attempted murder and battery with serious injury in connection with the shooting of two men on July 19.
