FRANCE — A man is spending some time behind bars after he went a little overboard trying to get his ex-girlfriend to thank him for work he’d done on their apartment.
The Guardian reports that the man, who remains unnamed, called and texted his former girlfriend 21,807 times and must now undergo psychiatric treatment and also pay a €1,000 fine.
He accepted responsibility for his actions, where he sent a barrage of text messages and phone calls over a 10-month period to the woman. He averaged about 73 calls a day. When she blocked him on her phone, he turned to calling her parents and place of work.
The harassment finally stopped after the pair met with a mediator and the woman thanked him for the work done.
“I tell myself, with hindsight, that it was stupid,” the man told a court room on Thursday.
