ARIZONA — A longtime employee of the Arizona Department of Corrections was paid $35,000 to settle a sexual harassment claim against her superior after multiple reports of inappropriate conduct.

Beverly McAllan had worked for the department for 14 years when she began working with Sgt. Gustavo Najera, who had a history of harassment and making sexual and obscene gestures, according to his personnel file.

McAllan claimed in a civil-rights complaint that Najera propositioned her for sex, groped her and put his hand between her legs, according to AZ Central.

The state paid her $35,000 to settle and denied any liability or wrongdoing. Najera faced no discipline in McAllan’s case, but resigned in 2010, claiming the allegations forced him to quit.
