WEST UNION, Ohio — Four former Adams County Jail corrections officers were convicted after an inmate was left in a holding cell for days without being checked on, WXIX reports.
Terry Akers, 40, Danny Kiskadden, 36, Chad Stanforth, 41, and Kiara Williams, 21, were convicted of dereliction of duty on Oct. 21. All four were fired months ago, according to WXIX.
Each faces up to 90 days in jail and a $750 fine on the second-degree misdemeanor charge. Williams was also convicted of falsification, a first-degree misdemeanor that carries up to an additional 180 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.
An independent investigation by the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office found the officers did not check on the inmate during their shifts over four days in April 2026, even though a log said they did, according to Sheriff Chris Stratton and court documents.
Investigators wrote in an affidavit that the inmate was found unresponsive in a holding cell in the jail’s booking area on the evening of April 20, with dried feces, urine and vomit next to him.
He was taken to Adams County Regional Medical Center and then transferred to Mercy Hospital Anderson, where he was diagnosed with “serious medical issues that persisted from being left unattended and unchecked,” according to the affidavit.
Investigators said jail staff removed the inmate from his assigned housing unit on April 14 and put him in the holding cell because he became combative with staff and other inmates and expressed concern for his own safety. He was taken to a hospital the next day after staff observed “a change in behavior.” After a medical evaluation, he was returned to the jail and placed back in a holding cell, where he stayed until April 20.
All four officers are free on bond. Sentencing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Nov. 10.
