NEW LENOX, Ill. — A California woman who apparently planned a very happy holiday is now sitting in the Will County Jail on marijuana charges.

Illinois State Police caught 58-year-old Deborah A. Guyette of Willits, Calif., with 28 pounds of pot wrapped up as Christmas gifts, according to a law enforcement source. She was stopped along Interstate 80 while making a cross-country trip from her home state to Pennsylvania.

Guyette now faces two felony counts carrying a minimum 12-year prison sentence. She’s being held in lieu of $150,000 bail.

Police smelled the drugs after stopping Guyette’s car Sunday near New Lenox, the source said. Her mother was also in the vehicle and apparently believed the presents were legitimate.
