Dad gets prison term for shaking death of son

He continues to insist he is not guilty

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — A Battle Creek man, continuing to insist he is not guilty, was sentenced to at least eight years in prison for the death of his infant son.

Shawn Brown, 26, was sentenced to eight years and four months to 30 years after a jury convicted him last month of voluntary manslaughter in the shaking death in January of his 5-month-old son, Shawn Brown Jr..

“Every day I wake up it tears me up to know my son is not here,” Brown told Calhoun County Circuit Judge Allen Garbrecht. “It is truly a hard situation to know that I am charged with killing my son but I didn’t.”
