SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — A 20-year-old Springfield man will spend up to five years in prison for beating a 51-year-old woman after demanding she give him cigarettes and beer.
The Register Guard reports Justin Ray Brink pleaded guilty Friday to third-degree assault and third-degree robbery.
Investigators say Brink and a 15-year-old accomplice punched the woman and knocked her to the ground on Dec. 23. The two demanded alcohol and cigarettes after they saw her carrying a bag of groceries from a nearby market.
After the assault, Brink and his accomplice fled the scene. The woman was treated at a hospital for head and facial injuries.
The victim did not know her attackers, but she helped police identify them three days later.
Brink’s teen accomplice, Nico Courtier, will make a court appearance next week.
