EL PASO, Texas — Daniel Athens was sentenced to 18 months in prison and ordered to pay $4,000 in restitution after he admitted to criminal mischief – that is, urinating on the Alamo, a historic landmark.
According to the Huffington Post, the sentence was part of a plea deal reached after an April 2012 incident in which Athens was caught by an Alamo Ranger in a “chained off area not open to the public” zipping up after urinating.
Athens is not eligible for parole and thus must serve the entirety of his sentence.
