NY Doctor: 1 of my personalities led to drug crime

Defrauded Medicare out of $300,000

NY — A doctor who claims to have multiple personalities is blaming one of them for defrauding Medicare out of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Diana Williamson’s sentencing has been postponed until prison authorities can determine whether they can treat a variety of illnesses her lawyer claims would lead to death if she were put behind bars, according to ABC News.

Lawyer Jonathan Marks said that Williamson deserved leniency due to not being responsible for carrying out a prescription painkiller scheme. One of her dozen or so personalities, Nala, was actually the one who committed the crime.

The judge was skeptical of this argument.

“I guess I’m having trouble understanding that with the defendant’s remarkable medical career, having founded an AIDS hospital…it doesn’t seem to have impaired her ability to function as a medical professional,” he said.

The government has recommended that Williamson serve 11 years or more for defrauding Medicare out of $300,000. Though Williamson has pleaded guilty in the case, she also blames Nala for the crime.

In a letter to the judge, she wrote that Nala “committed these crimes without telling Diana or the other parts of me about them.”
