EMERY COUNTY, Utah — A convicted sex offender stole a school bus and attempted to pick up a small girl outside her home on Monday.
FOX News reports that Patrick Fredrickson, a registered sex offender living in Ogden, walked away from his landscaping job and stole a nearby SUV from a funeral home.
He then drove to a remote location where he happened upon a school bus. Both the SUV and the school bus had the keys left inside the vehicles.
Fredrickson followed a list of stops and routes inside the bus, eventually encountering a little girl outside her home.
Her father intercepted the child before she could get on the bus; another person Fredrickson asked for directions from grew suspicious and called the police.
Fredrickson was arrested and faces two charges of theft of a vehicle and attempted child kidnapping. He was also wanted on a parole violation because he did not have permission to be working in Emery County.
He also faces a charge of damaging a jail cell for breaking a pipe inside the Emery County Jail and causing the booking area to be flooded.
