YORK COUNTY, S.C. — A woman has been sentenced to 90 days in jail for walking around topless outside of her home.
WSOC TV reports that Jeannie Jonas, 55, pleaded guilty to indecent exposure.
Her attorney argued that Jonas would not have been arrested if she had been a man; Jonas considered challenging the state law on the basis of gender bias, but decided to plead guilty instead.
She had been on probation for an earlier guilty plea to the same charge.
She told police last year that she wanted to join a nudist colony. Neighbors said Jonas has been walking around naked or nearly nude for eight years, according to the prosecution.
The maximum for indecent exposure is three years’ incarceration.
