KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A former Knox County probation officer, scheduled to be sentenced Tuesday for official misconduct, will not learn his fate until the fall.
Sentencing for Alex Ragland was reset to 9 a.m. Nov. 8, almost one year to the day that he was arrested in Knoxville on charges of bribery and official misconduct.
In May, Ragland pleaded guilty to one count of official misconduct. He faces up to two years in prison but has requested judicial diversion.
His arrest followed a five-month probe by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation into allegations that he accepted cash to ignore probation violations.
Although the Knox County District Attorney General’s office requested the investigation, the court case was ultimately transferred to the 4th Judicial District to avoid any potential conflict of interest by Knox County courts and prosecutors.
The case is being handled in Sevier County Criminal Court by Judge Robert Vance.
