Texas inmate condemned for killing prisoner loses appeal

Thirty-two-year-old Lee Andrew Taylor is set for lethal injection June 16 for the 1999 slaying of an inmate

HOUSTON — The U.S. Supreme Court has refused an appeal from a Texas man facing execution in June for fatally stabbing a fellow prison inmate.

Thirty-two-year-old Lee Andrew Taylor is set for lethal injection June 16 for the 1999 slaying of Donta Green, a prisoner at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Telford Unit near Texarkana.

Taylor already was serving a life term for the 1995 beating deaths of a couple in Channelview, just east of Houston. Taylor was 16 at the time of the double murder.

He had argued in earlier unsuccessful appeals that prosecutors improperly used that conviction — when he was under 18 and ineligible for the death penalty — as evidence to convince a jury to send him to death row for the prison killing.
