Veteran NC CO arrested on drug charges

The 12-year employee and sergeant with the Piedmont Correctional Institute was arrested on multiple drug charges

ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — A veteran employee with the Piedmont Correctional Institute was arrested Thursday on multiple drug charges, the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

An earlier traffic stop of Lamont Pate, 35, who lives with Sgt. Tasha Redmond, found 12 grams of heroin and 21 grams of marijuana in his vehicle, WSOC reported.

Officials obtained a search warrant for Redmond’s home on Oct. 20, and discovered a gram of suspected heroin, 21 grams of marijuana, three handguns, ammunition, $5,700 in cash and drug paraphernalia, the station reported.

Redmond was charged with felonious maintaining a dwelling, possession of heroin and possession of marijuana.

The investigation is ongoing.
