CLEVELAND — An inmate who kept talking during his sentencing was ordered to have his mouth taped shut by a judge, video from the courtroom showed.

On Tuesday, 32-year-old Franklyn Williams, who was on trial for three armed robberies, had his mouth taped shut after he kept talking during his sentencing, WJW reported. Williams was apparently complaining about his attorneys and was ordered to be silent multiple times.

Williams continued to speak despite the judge’s orders and kept interrupting the judge and even his own attorneys. Judge John Russo eventually ordered deputies to tape Williams’ mouth shut.

When the inmate continued to speak, the judge ordered deputies to put another piece of tape over his mouth.

Williams was sentenced to 24 years in prison. According to court documents, Williams was convicted in December on several counts, including aggravated robbery, kidnapping and having weapons under a disability.

His trial started last year but was delayed after he cut his ankle bracelet and fled to Nebraska, where he alleged that he was hit over his head and lost his memory.
