A female inmate being held at the Montgomery County Jail appeared in court Thursday morning, charged with assault and harassment of a corrections officer.

Erin Loftus was charged with one count each and pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The charges stem from the incident that happened on June 24. According to video that was just released from inside the jail, Loftus was completing an interview with a health employee when a female corrections officer stepped off an elevator to escort her back to her cell.

The video shows the corrections officer waiting for Loftus to leave her interview when she, without warning, threw a punch at the corrections officer’s face.

In the video, you see the corrections officer back up and take out her handcuffs. A male corrections officer steps off the elevator and begins to handcuff Loftus.

When the female corrections officer glances in the direction of the male inmate that her male co-worker was escorting, Loftus again takes another swing at her, striking the corrections officer again in the face, according to the video.

At this point, a third corrections officer deploys his Taser into Loftus’ back, forcing her to the ground. The video shows other corrections officers intervening and handcuffed Loftus.

Loftus was returned to her cell after she was medically checked due to the Taser deployment.

In court on Thursday morning, the judge issued a $5,000 bond.
