NEW YORK — A woman who attempted to switch seats and was jailed for doing so is suing United Airlines for $5 million.
Jean Mamakos tells CBS News that she was arrested for trespassing after she attempted to move to an empty row in the plane while traveling to Alaska for a ski vacation.
Flight staff first told her that she would have to pay for an upgrade, and after she opted to move back to her original location, then told her that she needed to exit the plane. When Mamakos refused, police were called and ended up forcibly removing her from the plane.
Her bags and friends continued on to Alaska while Mamakos spent three days in county jail.
