FREEPORT — While the debate rages nationwide over whether cops should be given personal cameras, at the Stephenson County Jail, there is no debate. A new system there is getting rave reviews.

From the moment a suspect enters the Stephenson County Jail, every word, every action, every interaction is recorded. That’s because all of the jails 23 correctional officers are outfitted with body cameras.

Stephenson County Sheriff David Snyders says that, “Anytime they have contact with an inmate, they are recording everything that’s happening within that cell block or in our booking area.”
