COLUMBIA — The Boone County Sheriff’s Department will test out body cameras on two deputies to see if they are useful for the department.

The Columbia Missourian reports that the trial will begin either later this year or in early 2015, and they will come to a decision about whether or not to buy them for the whole department by summer.

If they do decide to purchase more body cameras, they will do so using Proposition L, which is projected to generate $3.5 million in revenue in fiscal 2015.

About $2.6 million of the total spending will go toward sheriff and corrections officers’ salaries and equipment.

A total of $389,667 will be used to replace and maintain equipment for the Sheriff’s Department and the Boone County Jail.
