FORT COLLINS, Colo. — Larimer County plans to buy an airport-style scanner to screen new inmates, and jail officers will stop doing full-body searches.
The Fort Collins Coloradoan reported Wednesday officials believe the full-body scanner will be less invasive and qucker than traditional searches.
They plan to buy equipment similar to the type the Transportation Security Administration uses at airports. Larimer County Sheriff’s Department spokesman David Moore says the scanners have been effective at other jails.
Sheriff’s Capt. Tim Palmer says the county has put out a request for proposals. He says cost estimates and a timeline aren’t yet available.
The county has $1.2 million available from a sales tax for jail improvements. Updates are also planned for security software, fire alarms and the heating and cooling system.
