DENVER — Denver Deputy Roberto Roena is one month into a 90-day suspension after using taekwondo on a Denver jail inmate, then lying about it to investigators.
According to a disciplinary letter obtained by 9NEWS, Deputy Roena initiated a physical altercation in April 2013, after showing his martial arts expertise to other deputies.
The documents and an internal video show Deputy Roena was chatting with other deputies when he side-kicked in the middle of a Denver Detention Center corridor. An inmate in another room saw the kick, and began yelling profanities at Deputy Roena.
