Contraband: Pen shank

These contraband photos were sent to us from a Corrections1 member in Indiana.

He wrote, “This is a picture of a pen shank weapon found on an inmate during a strip search. At first glance it looks like a normal red pen that other inmates carry.”

“You wouldn’t think twice about it until you pull the cap off to reveal the sharp steel shank inside.”

The best way to safeguard against allowing an item like this in your facility is to check all containers/writing implements that aren’t see through to make sure the contents within are what they seem.
