A Corrections1 member sent in these contraband photos from New Castle, Pa., and wrote the following:
“Attached are photos showing the actual sandals the inmate who was released from a Pennsylvania DOC facility into our custody at Lawrence County Corrections.
“During a routine search, the officer was able to detect something not right with the inmate’s sandals. Upon further inspection it was determined this inmate’s sandals were altered.
“The inmate had removed the cushion part of the sandal exposing the “squares” of the mold from the machine which made them. These squares were then packed with balloons full of chewing tobacco and loose smoking tobacco, as well as rolling papers and a lighter.
“A total of 13 balloons were found along with the lighter. The inmate “resealed” the sandals using the black putty found in the windows of the facility in which he came from.
“I cannot imagine the level of contraband that could be entered into any facility using similar sandals.”
