Inmate fights prison over seized Scarlett Johansson photo

Claims that the materials taken from him by prison staff are permitted for inmates

LANCASTER COUNTY — An inmate who recently won his appeal for a new jail sentence on sex crimes is continuing to fight for the return of what he calls illegally seized magazines.

Lancaster Online reports that Kevin Getchius, 33, claims prison staff confiscated parts of his magazine, including stories and a photo of Scarlett Johansson. Getchius says that the claimed material was permitted for inmates.

A Lancaster County judge originally denied the suit in 2013, but it’s still pending in U.S. District Court, records show. A hearing is set for Sept. 7.

Getchius is suing for reimbursement of the magazines at “newsstand prices” and for $2,500 in punitive damages.

The prison stated that select magazines and parts of magazines, such as cologne/perfume samples and large photographs, are considered contraband.
